Good Morning America!

These thoughts are from an average person, not a paid professional writer, or a computer geek purist, just thoughts from a common everyday folk perspective.

So, what are your thoughts?

A Twitter Twit

Scrolling down my Twitter page I found this interesting blog post by bbrian017 at BlogEngage.

His post questions whether or not he's using twitter in the correct context.

From a non-geek and non-business owner perspective, I believe he's using Twitter just fine.

What I've seen on Twitter, just as I've seen on FaceBook, is that people use these two popular social media networks for various reasons.

  1. Marketing their online businesses.
  2. Marketing their local businesses.
  3. Marketing their blogs.
  4. Marketing their websites.
  5. Twittering just to be tweeting.
  6. Making friends or business networking
Athletes twitter -- Shaq, the Williams sisters, many Professional sports teams [Go CAVS]  have a designated tweet twitterer.

Visiting a blog post by Israeli Mom -- 11 Things Twitter is Good For, I found one of many interesting reasons she uses Twitter.  She uses twitter for importing or finding products cheaper elsewhere than they are in her home country. Frankly, this idea never occurred to me.

Mainly, various entrepreneurs use Twitter to gain customer interest -- Verizon uses twitter to let customers know of new offers or to gain new customers, Starbucks posts new offers and participates in threaded discussions, JetBlue offers Twitter-based customer service as does ComCast the list goes on.

And, yes, those of us who don't own businesses or have no specialized knowledge in any one thing in particular, but a severe case of bloggorhea, use Twitter to gain blog readership.

I use Twitter to notify the cyberworld of a new post on one of my many blogs. Twitter also comes in handy for different news venues. I've used many of the tweets [like bbrian017] for ideas on blog posts.

My personal thoughts on Twitter vs. FaceBook, twitter is much easier, less complicated and doesn't have the bugs FaceBook has. FaceBook tends to wear on my nerves with all its glitches [that's another post].

If you like this post -- by all means TWEET it! Then tweet it again and again and...

So . . . Who is Jack Thompson?

You'd like too -- wouldn't ya!

Not going to happen. This is still America! And, if you don't like that,  then leave.

Jack Thompson's name keeps popping up all over the Internet. Through Twitter, FriendFeed, on the Mashable blog -- of course, all this hoopla has got me wondering, just who is  this Jack Thompson and why all the fuss.

Wouldn't you know -- Thompson is another Baby Boomer doing what we Boomers do best: Activism. And his long disbarred arm seems to be up, what looks to be, a bunch of Boom buster butts.

What the Boom Busters or Generation Y's don't know is it's people like Thompson whose booming attitudes are  what changed the face of America. Sure, he's an odd ball. He's done things off the norm -- that's what changes things.

He's got his hair up the gamers and rappers ass and they don't like the feel of it.

SO!

Maybe there are those of us who don't like your ways and they way your ways digs in our crawl -- ever thought of that.

Has it ever occurred to you that your automaton lives affect other people.

Look, there's an older segment of society that agrees with Thompson's views but not with his tactics. If his law suits are frivolous, they won't go any where. He'll be the courts problem not anyone else.

There must be some iota of truth to what he's complaining about or logical people wouldn't be up in arms.

He's an attention getter. Thompson does what attention getters do and he's got you!

He's got gamers attention, he's got rapper's attention. They all think he's nuts. So, what!

Let him sue, FaceBook, let him protest modern obscenity [it really is disgusting] let him go after computer and video games [they are violent and graphic] he has every right too.

Why, well, there is this document known as the "Bill of Rights" which are the first ten amendments to the Constitution. TheThird Amendment says:

Article to the third [Amendment I]
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
This document doesn't just pertain to a certain select few. It's for everybody. If you don't like what someone writes or says then don't read it or don't listen -- simple as that.

This man has been called an IDIOT

He's been accused of HARASSMENT

Now there's a I Hate Jack Thompson campaign. How stupid is this. Don't you all have something better to do, like, pay bills.

Sure, Thompson is off the wall or as they say in the streets "off the hook"  -- who cares!

It seems that it's only the "ma'ambie - pambie crowd who are the ones upset.

Get off your hinies and . . . go plow a field or hoe a garden, or get a job, or read a book.

Get out from in front of the boob-tube and stop worrying about those brain-numbing sex and violent video/computer games.

Stop listening to these so-called musicians who degrade women -- you're all dumbing down America!

**yeah, I said it and. . . **

Using Face Book and Twitter

For me, I like to advertise my blogs on both Face Book and Twitter. I have what is known as a severe case of Bloggorhea [a word I picked up off the television]

I like the word logorrhea which I do have a severe case of too -- so, why not play a bit of Scrabble with it and come up with a new word. Both words describe excessive use of rambling on -- right!

Now the Internet rage is FaceBook and Twitter. Believe it or not there are still people out there who haven't a clue what either of them are.

I mentioned tweeting something to someone to a friend of mine and they had no clue as to what on earth I was talking about.

Twitter has become so big that you will see twitter advertisements on the television.

Your local News Stations tell their viewers "Follow us on Twitter"

Celebrities are using Twitter in droves.

Watching "The View" a couple of months back, the ladies were making a big to-do about how Barbara Walters was now on Twitter.

Celebs from Shaq to Venus and Serena Williams to Paris Hilton, too... use Twitter. In fact the Williams sisters consistent users of Twitter. So consistent that Serena twits about every move she makes.

Right after her oopsey at the U.S Open, Serena tweeted her apologies to all her fans following her on Twitter. Then she went on to twit about her book signings and about her and Venus' night at the Dolphins game.

I really wanted to send her a message but as you can guess, there was no way I could find to send her one. I guess she has that blocked -- rightfully so, she's got quite a few followers, can you imagine all the messages she would get.

Sports teams, Authors, News, Celebs and Television shows are beating down the doors on FaceBook too.

This makes me wonder if President Obama is right -- are newspapers in trouble? Everyone seems to be flocking to social networking and the internet for their information. Should there be a bill to BAIL-OUT THE PRESS

FaceBook uses:

People use FaceBook for various reason. The average person uses it to stay in contact with friends and family. They post pictures, send messages and use it for community services. Many find friends from long ago to play catch up.

Businesses use it for their employees, or to advertise their business and plan meetings. Authors, writers use it to Network and sell their books etc...

Twitter uses

Tweeting a blog or web site you're reading at the time. I have found that some people use it like a personal diary and tweet insignificant information but, to each his own. I've done that myself.

Personally, I like the micro blogging of twitter. There's not a bunch of applications suddenly showing up on your page. Everything tweeted is short, sweet and, too the point.

If people want to click on the url you've tweeted they can.

FaceBook has bugs. Sometimes you can't see pictures or you can't click on an application or you can't log in, the drama goes on and on...

Yet, FB is still growing. There's even been talk about paying for it -- that I won't do.

So, what do you use FB or Twitter for?

I wonder does anyone else think that social networking is making society socially bankrupt? Has anyone done a study on that?

Show me the numbers.
